Phasmophobia’s Chronicle Update Is Making Ghost Hunting More Realistic Than Ever

Jay DaviesNewsJune 6, 2025

Mark your calendars for June 25, as Phasmophobia is set to launch its next major update: Chronicle. While the full patch isn’t live yet, a new developer blog gives us a preview of what’s to come, and it’s shaping up to be one of the game’s biggest updates yet.

At the heart of Chronicle is a complete overhaul of the Media section in your journal. Up until now, the only way to document ghost evidence was through photos, such as snapshots of open doors, a plate that was knocked over, or salt piles that had been stepped in. While effective in gameplay terms, it never quite made sense. Why would a blurry photo of an ajar door count as solid proof of a ghost?

Plus, the system could be easily abused. I’m sure we all can admit to taking five identical pictures of the same disturbed salt pile to fill up the photo journal.

That’s all about to change.

In Chronicle, the Media system is being expanded and reworked into something much more realistic and engaging. Investigators will now be expected to capture photos, video recordings, and sound evidence to fill out their journal. Every piece of media must be unique – no more spamming the same evidence for easy credit.

And to support this overhaul, a new piece of ghost-hunting gear is being introduced: the Sound Recorder. This handy device will allow players to record auditory evidence, like responses from the Spirit Box or those creepy, spectral noises that occur during a ghost event.

These changes aim to make perfect investigations more challenging and immersive. You won’t just be pointing and shooting at random events – you’ll need to actively document the ghost’s behaviour across multiple forms of media.

But that’s not all. The dev blog ends with a teaser image that hints at truck changes, possibly expanding the space or offering new camera interactions. Could the truck dwellers finally get some more to do?

Chronicle arrives June 25 on PC and console, and based on this early preview, there’s still much more to uncover. Make sure to check back here at Horror Game News when the full patch notes drop – we’ll have a full breakdown of everything new in the update.
