It’s Summer Games Fest season again, with a weekend full of game announcements, trailers, and surprises! The reveals span multiple genres, so we’ve filtered through the showcase to pick out the horror games that were shown off.
Developer: Section 9 Interactive
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X, PS5
Release date: 2026
A sci-fi, atmospheric action-adventure that gives off strong Little Nightmares vibes – and for good reason. Many of the devs at Section 9 previously worked on Little Nightmares I and II. While not strictly a horror title, End of Abyss features unsettling monster designs and eerie environments definitely cross into the genre.
Developer: Serenity Forge
Platforms: PC
Release date: To be announced
From the creators of Doki Doki Literature Club, Fractured Blooms is a “psychological life sim” that blends cozy slice-of-life elements with darker themes of grief and trauma. Expect farming, cooking, and time loops – all wrapped in a deeply unsettling narrative.
Developer: Techland
Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X
Release Date: August 22nd
Originally revealed at last year’s Summer Games Fest, Dying Light: The Beast got a new trailer and a confirmed August release date. You’ll return as Kyle Crane, the protagonist from the first game, now altered by brutal experiments involving zombie DNA. It’s still all about fast-paced parkour and trying to survive the brutal nights, and now includes 4-player co-op.
Developer: Team Clout
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X, PS5
Release date: To be announced
ILL was easily the standout trailer of the showcase, and probably one of the best horror game trailers I’ve seen in years. It’s a brutally realistic first-person survival horror from brand-new studio Team Clout, whose VFX credits include Longlegs, Until Dawn, and V/H/S/Beyond. This is horror at its most grotesque: unpredictable enemies, bone-crunching dismemberment, and deeply unsettling creature design.
Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
Release Date: February 27, 2029
After teasers throughout the night that Resident Evil 9 would be shown in the near future, the trailer for RE9 – officially titled Resident Evil: Requiem – capped off the showcase.
The trailer opens with an FBI agent investigating a serial killer who struck in the same location where her mother was murdered, before cutting to scenes of a ruined Raccoon City Police Department, swarming with terrifying new monsters. The trailer hints at a darker, more investigative tone, while still delivering the intense survival horror fans expect.
Details are still scarce, but Geoff Keighley described it as a “bold shift” for the franchise. A playable demo will be available this August at Gamescom.
Those were all the horror games revealed during the two-hour Summer Games Fest 2025 opening livestream.
Immediately following the Summer Games Fest opening showcase was Day of the Devs, an indie-focused presentation that spotlighted some of the most creative upcoming titles — including two intriguing horror games.
Please, Watch the Artwork is a cozy yet eerie anomaly-spotting game where you spend your night shift observing living paintings at the Museum of Animated Modern Art. Each artwork depicts animated slices of everyday life, and your job is to catch the subtle changes. There are no jump scares or monsters to fear, but a mysterious clown who hops between canvases adds an unsettling edge to your otherwise quiet shift.
Imagine Stardew Valley as a horror game. Neverway blends farming life sim, action RPG, and slow-burn psychological horror as you step into the shoes of Fiona, who escapes her old life to start anew on a remote island, only to become the immortal herald of a dead god. Grow crops, build relationships (and even romance), and craft your homestead by day… while uncovering the creeping nightmare of Neverway by night. Features fast-paced combat, dynamic story choices, and gorgeous pixel art by the artist behind Celeste.
Nevertheless, the weekend is far from over! Check back at Horror Game News for continued coverage, with more horror reveals expected during the Xbox Games Showcase, the Future Games Show, and the PC Gaming Show.
