Polish indie studio Sonka just shadow-dropped a brand-new demo for Holstin during the Future Games Show showcase, and it’s available now on Steam. The surprise release gives players access to the first two hours of the full game, offering a deep dive into this psychological survival horror experience. Holstin has been turning heads thanks to its uniquely adaptive camera system, which seamlessly shifts between first-person, top-down, side-scrolling, and several other perspectives to heighten tension and keep players on edge.
The demo kicks off the story proper, drawing players into Jeziorne-Kolonia, a decaying lakeside town in 1990s Poland, where something sinister has taken root. Players will scavenge for supplies, fight off twisted enemies, solve environmental puzzles, and interact with disturbed locals who may not be entirely human anymore. The game’s dense atmosphere is backed by gritty pixel art brought to life with real-time lighting, thanks to Sonka’s proprietary 2XD Rendering technology.
A brand-new trailer premiered alongside the demo, offering a glimpse at what awaits in the corrupted streets of Holstin’s world. You can watch it below:
Sonka also revealed that a Kickstarter campaign is on the way later this year, aiming to support final development and potential stretch goals. Interested players can sign up for updates now.
Inspired by Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and the psychological unease of Twin Peaks, Holstin is shaping up to be a uniquely disorienting and memorable horror experience. The full release is planned for PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2.
