April is quite literally on the opposite side of the calendar to October, but that doesn’t mean that April doesn’t have some great horror games in store for this month. For Xbox, PC and PlayStation fans, there are 5 big horror releases slated for April 2024, and hopefully a bunch of indie gems and surprise releases in store as well. So, let’s take a look at the biggest horror games releasing in April 2024.
Deceit 2 (Xbox and PlayStation) – April 3rd
Deceit 2 is a “social deduction horror game” where innocent players must complete a dangerous ritual whilst evading execution from infected players. It’s sort of like “Among Us”, but with a third category of player – the Cursed – who cause as much chaos for both sides as possible. It recently went free-to-play on Steam and will be available on Xbox and PlayStation on April 3rd.
Buckshot Roulette (Steam release) – April 4th
The surprise itch.io hit from earlier this year Buckshot Roulette is making its Steam debut on April 4th. Players sign away their rights for a game of Russian Roulette against a shady dealer, who looks straight out of Inscryption. Gain the upper hand by using powerful items such as the magnifying glass which lets you see whether a blank or live round is currently in the chamber, or the saw which doubles the damage that the shotgun will inflict on this turn. Of course, strategy can only get you so far, so you better hope that luck is also on your side.
Withering Rooms – April 5th
April 5th sees the release of the 2.5D horror RPG Withering Rooms on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. Fight terrifying monsters including witches and ghosts in a procedurally generated Victorian House, where the mansion layout changes every night. Thanks to its beautiful gothic art style and range of unique and terrifying enemies, Withering Rooms wins the coveted award for our most anticipated horror game of April 2024!
Sker Ritual – April 18th
Survival horror fans might remember the indie gem that was Maid of Sker from a few years ago. Well, Sker Ritual reimagines the game’s “bad ending” and iconic enemies – the “Quiet Ones” – in a wave-based zombie-shooter spin-off. As you survive more rounds as a solo or in 4-player co-op, enemies will drop powerful upgrades and items. Sker Ritual exits Early Access with its 1.0 release on Steam, Xbox and PlayStation on April 18th.
Dead Island 2 (Steam release) – April 22nd
The previous Epic Games exclusive Dead Island 2 is finally coming to Steam. Explore the game’s gorgeous rendition of Los Angeles (which isn’t really an “island”) and brutally dismember dozens of different types of zombies. You can play single-player or in 3-player co-op when the game releases on Steam on April 22nd.
