Dead by Daylight is celebrating its 7th year anniversary in its annual livestream. Originally planned for next week, it had to be pulled forward as practically every surprise announcement was leaked online in the last few days. Nevertheless, the livestream still showed us fans loads of exciting new announcements that will be coming to the game this year. Let’s check out all the announcements and updates from the DBD Year 7 Anniversary broadcast, and see what has changed since the last roadmap.
End Transmission Chapter Reveal: New Killer, Survivor and Map
Dead by Daylight is finally going Sci-Fi! The next chapter will be featuring a brand-new Sci-Fi killer called the Singularity. The lore is that this powerful AI used cloning technology to gain flesh and increase in power, with the typical Sci-Fi movie objective to destroy all humans! Make sure to check out the awesome chapter trailer.
The Singularity’s power is the ability to fire biopods at vertical surfaces. This sets up a CCTV-like turret which can infect survivors. Once infected, the Singularity can teleport right behind them and begin chase. To view the killer’s power and perks in more detail, and all of the patch-notes of the new chapter, check out our in-depth article.
The new survivor is named Gabriel Soma and is the last remaining survivor on his ship. But by far the most exciting announcement so far has got to be the brand-new map which certainly looks like the most unique and detailed map the game has ever released. Featuring eerie broken-down ships and a hostile alien jungle, the scenery just looks straight out of Sci-Fi classics such as Dead Space or Alien, so make sure to check out the trailer below.
The official release date for the chapter is June 13th, so just under a month until we get our hands on the new killer, survivor and map!
New Dead by Daylight Story Mode by Supermassive Games
Perhaps my favourite announcement of the whole anniversary broadcast is the collaboration with the developers over at Supermassive Games. This studio is renowned for making some of the best interactive horror games, such as Until Dawn, The Quarry as well as the Dark Pictures Anthology.
They will be creating a new horror game set in the Dead by Daylight universe. Featuring a new set of characters who get drawn into the entity’s realm, this new game will feature Supermassive Game’s classic branching story and life/death mechanics. I cannot wait for more to be revealed about this later in the year!
New Dead By Daylight PvE Game by Midwinter
That’s not all: in the future, there will be 3 Dead by Daylights! This time, Dead by Daylight is doing what Overwatch 2 could not do: making a PvE experience! Little information was provided on developers Midwinter’s new multiplayer experience. What we do know is that it is a co-operative 4 player PvE game, and that the main themes are greed and lust for power. Sounds intriguing. We might have to wait a while to see any teasers from this game, as they noted they’re still in very early development.
Year 8 Roadmap Reveals Upcoming Killers and … Nicolas Cage?
The anniversary show started with the roadmap for Year 8 of Dead by Daylight updates. As always, there will be 4 new killers in the next year, and following the End Transmission chapter, there will be two new licenced killers! Time to make a guess on which horror icon is set to appear next. I’m guessing one might be a Supermassive Games character following their recent collaboration announcement, or maybe they’ve finally caved into the community’s cries for a Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter.
Furthermore, for some strange reason, Nicolas Cage is coming to Dead by Daylight as… Nicolas Cage. Apparently, his performance on stage summoned the entity, and now he will be a new playable survivor in the game. We can learn more about this strange collaboration on July 5th.
Take a look below at the upcoming changes and a timeline of updates in Year 8, revealed during the anniversary stream!
More Regular Map and Perk Balancing
The developers discussed a little about some upcoming gameplay improvements that are set to release throughout the year.
This includes a promise to add regular map-balancing updates. This will come alongside the more regular perk balance updates that should arrive with each new update. The first two maps that are getting some much-needed fixes are Coldwind Farm’s Fractured Cowshed and Rancid Abattoir.
The New Anti-Camping Mechanics
This is not a drill! Survivors finally have a bult-in counter to the infamous killer tactic of face-camping.
A survivor on hook will now have a meter which fills up when the killer is standing within a close proximately to them. Once this meter has filled up, the survivor can unhook themselves, even on their second stage! Plus, they will also get the haste and endurance status effects as though another survivor has unhooked them.
To ensure this feature is balanced, the meter will fill up much slower when other survivors enter within the radius of the hook. This means that killers can no longer soft camp the hooked survivors by chasing their teammates around the hook. And, during the endgame, the feature completely turns off so that the killer is able to guard their final objective.
Much Needed Quality of Life Improvements
It’s funny because these next changes sound relatively small but are probably some of the most requested features by the DBD community. Firstly, you can now search for perks on the loadout screen! Seeing as how there are hundreds of perks, it can be a real pain finding the ones that you need. The search bar doesn’t just filter by name but also the perk abilities themselves. The community will be able to taste the sweet relief of this long-awaited mechanism in the next update.
Secondly, they will be adding customisable player cards that will spice up your nametag. This will most likely feature a background, banner and icon which will all be free to earn in the tomes. With release set in fall, I’m looking forward to some extra cosmetics to make my profile more unique.
Thirdly, the developers are trying to get rid of one of the worst aspects of the game. Imagine: you load into the game and hear Pinhead’s chime and suddenly someone disconnects. Well, in an update later this year, this disconnected survivor will be replaced by an AI bot. While a bot can’t compare to a real player’s skill level, it’s still better than having no one.
Finally, the report system is getting an improvement. The developers will now update you when your report has resulted in an action against a player. This means that when you report a player for being the worst teammate ever, you receive a notification if justice has indeed been served.
New Cosmetic Collaborations
Fans of metal can rejoice since Dead by Daylight is partnering with the iconic bands Iron Maiden and Slipknot on new cosmetics. The Iron Maiden collection revolves around the band’s mascot Eddie, whereas Slipknot’s collection will showcase 9 of the band’s masks. These are in early stages, so I wouldn’t expect these until later in the year.
They even announced a bunch of new collections, such as the Artists from the Fog collection. Also, Behaviour’s character Naughty Bear from 505 games will be a new Trapper outfit with its own unique mori.
Most excitingly for me, they have announced a collection in partnership with Ikumi Nakamura, who worked on Evil Within and Ghostwire Tokyo. Her new outfits for the Oni, Legion and Yui look absolutely insane, as shown below.
7th Anniversary In-Game Events
And finally, the livestream discussed a little about the anniversary event that will be coming to the game. The Masquerade theme from last year returns, with 12 new masks, as well as an event and community tome. Looks like there will be a lot of cosmetics to unlock, and a fun challenge that involves random perks. Of course, you can expect lots of Masquerade themed decorations on the maps, and Father Campbell’s Chapel is set to receive some new decor.
Other Updates and Codes
During the show, the developers released a couple codes that give you some cool in-game rewards.
- Code: DBD7 for 400,000 bloodpoints.
- Code: Trapper7 grants you a Roblox-style Trapper Charm.
- Code: DBD7th gives you 10% off on merch from the DBD official shop.
Try to redeem soon, as the codes probably won’t last too long.
And that’s a wrap! It was a pretty exciting anniversary event for those who weren’t spoiled by the leaks. Dead by Daylight is set to have a bunch of fun new updates to the game in the next year. Furthermore, fans of the universe have a bright future, with two new games being made. And don’t forget the movie announcement earlier this year! If you’re a fan of the game, why don’t you check out some of the best survivor builds in the game, or mix it up with some builds for the most recent killer, the Skull Merchant.
