Key Art of Leatherface from Dead by Daylight

A few weeks ago, panic struck amongst the DBD community as leaks stated that the community’s favorite camping killer Leatherface is leaving Dead by Daylight. The theory has it that the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre game had the exclusive rights to Leatherface. The leaks emerged from the popular Twitter account DBDLeaks, which has almost 200,000 followers. Historically, DBDLeaks has been fairly accurate in data mining upcoming perks, survivors, chapters, outfits, and events, and is propped up by its discord of data miners. They found evidence of alternative names for Leatherface’s perk on the Public Test Build of the game, which would indicate Dead by Daylight losing the license to the character and the lore surrounding him.

Tweet from DBDLeaks wishing goodbye to The Cannibal

This sparked concern from many players as Dead by Daylight recently lost the extremely popular Stranger Things license in November 2021. Whilst the characters Nancy, Steve, and the Demogorgon are still playable in-game for those who already purchased it, new players are unable to get their hands on the beloved characters. This sparked a ton of concern about losing other licenses – but there is hope. Ash from Evil Dead is a playable survivor in Dead By Daylight who was not removed from the game when Evil Dead: The Game was released.

Developers shut down the rumours

However, the developers at Behaviour Interactive must have seen these leaks, as they issued this tweet on 17/01/2023:

Dead by Daylight’s official Twitter account tweeted “Y’all, he’s not going anywhere”

And if the caption isn’t proof enough, the official Twitter account responded to a user asking “Leatherface is staying??” with “Yes”. Another user asked “so bubba isn’t leaving dbd after all”, to which they replied, “Nope, he’s still got business to take care of in The Entity’s Realm. We’ll let you know if a licensed character ever needs to leave us.”

Leatherface, known in games as The Cannibal, is one of the most memed killers. Players have a tendency to stand directly opposite hooked survivors and camp them until they die, due to his ability to down healthy survivors with his chainsaw. The good news is that despite rumors that Leatherface is leaving Dead by Daylight, he is likely to remain in-game for some time now that we have this confirmation. It is a good sign to us all to take each leak with a grain of salt.

One response to “Dead By Daylight confirms Leatherface isn’t leaving just yet.”
