2023’s breakout gaming sensation Lethal Company has just released a huge, brand-new update. The Version 45 update – codenamed ‘Frosty’ – comes with some terrifying new enemies, items, and reworked gameplay mechanics. So, let’s check out everything included in Lethal Company’s new update.
New Items
Lethal Company has added in some new scrap items, store items, as well as ship upgrades and decorations!
Store Items & Ship Upgrades
For the budding artists in your crew, there is the new Spray Can, purchasable from the Company store for a mere $50. Aside from drawing phallic images, the Spray Can is a great way to communicate visually with your teammates. For example, you can mark which areas you have been, where there are dead ends, etc.
Next up is the Signal Translator ship upgrade, and this item is pretty cool. It allows players to transmit messages from the ship onto the visor of all crewmembers, regardless of their distance from the ship. This is a great way to send messages to all your teammates at once, especially if you don’t have walkie-talkies. However, the message does take time to transmit, so choose your message wisely. It’s not the best way to tell your friend that there’s a Giant behind them but could be useful to let them know that it’s getting close to midnight.
And whilst not a new item, the Radar Booster receives an upgraded. Players at the ship terminal can now stun and blind enemies using the ‘flash’ command. Just be careful, as your stun can blind and deafen your teammates, especially if the radar booster is being held.
Ship Decorations
There are three new ship decorations, including a fishbowl ($50), the Pyjama Man Plushie ($100) and a Welcome Mat ($50).
Scrap Items
There are six new scrap items:
- Wrapped Gift Boxes – Players can sell these gift boxes or open them. Opening the box will reveal a random scrap item that can spawn on this moon. This seems pretty good on the more difficult moons, where the scrap spawns can be more valuable.
- Chemistry Flask – It’s just a chemistry flask.
- Very importantly, there’s whoopie cushions. Try standing on one, you won’t believe what happens!
- The Homemade Flashbang – If you pull the pin on the homemade flashbang, it will blind and stun yourself and nearby enemies.
- The Comedy Mask and the Tragedy Mask. These masks can be worth a small fortune, but beware! If you put the masks on for too long, you can become possessed by the Mimic.
New Enemies
There are two new terrifying enemies in Lethal Company – the Mimic and the Nutcracker.
The Mimic
The first new enemy is the Mimic. It can spawn in one of two ways:
- If a player wears the Comedy or Tragedy Mask for too long (what classifies as ‘too long’ appears to be random)
- The Mimic can also randomly spawn within the complex, in the same way as any normal enemy.
As their name suggests, Mimics take the form of your fellow crewmembers. Mimics will roam around the moon, searching for players. If the Mimic manages to find another player, it will follow them and try to grab them. They can even sprint towards you for a short period of time. Worst of all, they aren’t confined within the walls of the compound. This means that they can follow you outside and wreak havoc.
If the Mimic manages to grab a player, the player will die, and their body will be possessed. This can cause the Mimic to spread amongst the crewmembers like a plague.
Nutcrackers
Christmas has arrived at the moons of Lethal Company with the brand-new enemy: The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker spawns on high-level moons and is (fortuntately) confined to the indoors.
Nutcrackers patrol around the complex. Every once in a while, the Nutcracker will stop and scan for movement – this scanning period is denoted by wooden creaking noises and an exposed yellow eye. If the Nutcracker spots you whilst scanning, you’re in for a rough time. Armed with a double-barrel shotgun, it will chase you down and shoot at you. The shotgun is powerful and is able to one-shot you.
For those of you wondering whether you can kill the Nutcracker, the answer is yes! You can only damage a Nutcracker whilst it is scanning. You can use Flashbangs or a Zap Gun to stun the Nutcracker and damage it with a shovel or stop sign. Once you have killed the Nutcracker, you can steal its Shotgun and Shotgun Shells.
Reworked Mechanics
Lethal Company has also made changes to a number of mechanics and exploits. These include:
- The ‘Rail Cheese’ exploit (i.e. standing on a railing to damage enemies without letting them damage you) has been removed.
- Forest Giants are easier to avoid by crouching.
- Arachnophobia mode makes the spiders less scary, by changing their appearance to ‘Spider’ in text-form.
- Added Key Bind Settings.
Changed the map generation of Mansion complexes. - Fall Damage has been made more brutal, meaning that you can die via fall damage even at full health.
And that’s pretty much it. Make sure to check out the official patch notes for yourself, and watch the short trailer that the developer released with the update below.
