Dead by Daylight Lunar New Year Event

The developers at Behaviour Interactive have just released a brand new Dead by Daylight Update on 24th January 2023, alongside the Lunar New Year Event and new Tome Chapter 14. The 6.5.0 Mid-Chapter Update is set to be one of the biggest balance and quality of life updates in recent memory for the game. So lets check out what’s arriving in the update today:

New Event – The ‘Moonlight Burrow’ Lunar New Year Event

The New event is based on Chinese/Lunar New Years, and includes new skins for Vittorio and Feng! The Resident Evil characters are getting some love too with skins for Leon and Ada, as well as a Resident Evil skin for The Blight.

Not only that, generators, hooks and exit gates will be decorated in Lunar New Year style! The red envelope mechanic is also making a return from last year. Players have to find and claim red envelops across the map as a side-mission. If you successfully interact with the envelope, you will receive one of 10 special New Years rewards. Paper lanterns will also spawn at unused totem spots, and when survivors or killers interact with them, they receive buffs to movement and vault speeds.

When Is The Lunar New Year Event In Dead By Daylight?

The event will last from the 24th January to 7th February 2023, so be sure to check it out before it leaves.

Also, remember to use the bloodpoint code LUCKYBP2023 in order to gain 168,888 bloodpoints during the event!

What Are The Quality Of Life Changes In This Update?

  • Survivor Activity Icons: Next to the survivor names and pictures, you can now see an icon indicating what each survivor is doing. This includes doing a generator, healing, being chased, blessing/cleansing a totem and more. This is a massive change especially for solo survivors, as you don’t need to rely upon 3rd-party software such as Discord to know what your teammates are doing.
  • Queuing Changes: Killers can now view and interact with cosmetics and the bloodweb for all killers whilst queueing. However, you still have to play as the killer you queued up for, as each Killer has a different matchmaking rating. All players can also browse the store and archives whilst queuing.
  • Killer Adepts Made Easier: In order to earn the ‘Adept’ achievement for each killer, you currently have to only use the Killer’s original 3 perks and earn 4 iridescent badges. This was inconsistent, and even eliminating all the survivors would not guarantee the achievement. This update changes the requirements, meaning that you will earn the ‘Adept’ achievement for killing all 4 survivors using just the 3 original perks for that killer.
  • Wiggling Changes: The new wiggling mechanics revolving around repeated Skill Checks has been pushed from beta to live, meaning that it is the norm for all players now. One change from the beta is that hitting a great skill check no longer speeds up your wiggle progress, but instead now increases the sway of the Killer.

How Has The Knight Been Buffed?

The new Dead By Daylight update also comes with balance updates for The Knight, The Nurse, and the Eyries of Crows map.

The Knight has a number of balance changes which increases his effectiveness. His guards will now apply 5% progress loss when kicking a generator instead of 2.5%. When placing a patrol, his orb will disappear after moving 10 metres, allowing him to surprise survivors more easily. After placing a patrol path, the Knight will gain a Haste status effect speed boost dependent on the length of the patrol up to 10 seconds. Finally, the Knight’s guards will move faster after spotting a survivor, and this is also dependent on the length of the patrol path.

Hopefully these changes will help The Knight achieve higher lethality against survivors whilst using his guards, as well as enabling some more stealth-oriented builds.

How Has The Nurse Been Nerfed?

The developers have also made changes to arguably the strongest killer in the game, The Nurse. She has been dominant in the highest ranks of the game for quite some time now, so it is good to finally see some nerfs. The biggest change is that an attack made after blinking/teleporting will count as a special attack rather than a basic attack. This means that these hits will not synergise with perks such as NOED and Devour Hope. This is a big nerf to Nurse builds that rely on exposure and status effect perks as the Nurse cannot blink-attack and still gain value out of these perks.

The Nurse also receives reworks to many of her add-ons, which can be fully seen in the Official Patch Notes.

The Eyries of Crows map, released during The Artist’s chapter, has received a rework as well. The map has been shortened, received new added tiles, and moved the main building. This is likely to help the map be more balanced for both killer and survivor.

Enjoy the Event!

Overall, this is set to be a massive new Dead by Daylight update, with loads of cool new features and cosmetics to check out! Make sure to take a look at the full patch notes to see in depth changes and bug fixes.
