The Key art for The Outlast Trials

Outlast Trials Reveals Exciting Roadmap for 2024 and Beyond

The Outlast Trials recently left Steam early access and fully launched on PC, Xbox and PlayStation. The 1.0 update added a terrifying new trial – Pervert The Futterman – alongside crossplay, brand-new AMPs (upgrades), and a new difficulty, Project: Ultra.

As happens with lots of early access games, players who supported the game pre-release often worry that it won’t continue to receive updates after launch. Luckily, it seems that Red Barrels have extensive and exciting plans for the future of the game, as they just revealed the roadmap for The Outlast Trials.

The Roadmap for 2024 and beyond for The Outlast Trials

From the graphic above, it looks like The Outlast Trials is entering into a seasonal model, something that many gamers are accustomed to by now.

The first season is debuting in a couple of months, in Summer 2024. Alongside other exciting new features set to come, Season 1 will arrive with a new trial, RIG, and a prime asset (the nickname for the antagonists in the trials).

The details are still pretty vague, but the fact that they’re planning on continuing to add new trials is the biggest takeaway from this announcement for me. The current five trials definitely comprise a fair amount of content and are highly replayable, especially for players trying to earn an A+ grade. However, after a few months, I’m sure that the trials would start to feel repetitive without any new content.

Following the first season, the future remains bright for The Outlast Trials. New game modes, trials, enemies, events, and more are all in the works for the end of 2024, and moving into 2025.

Speaking of events, the developers also gave us a sneak peek at upcoming limited-time events (LTEs). The first event is titled Toxic Shock, and we’ll have to wait for more details about what this LTE will entail. My educated guess is that it’s got something to do with the hallucinogenic gas. Following Toxic Shock, there’s a Classified event, so I’ve got no guesses for what that’s about.

Plus, we’ve also got a look at the weekly challenge trials that players will enjoy for the upcoming month. Fans who have played since the 1.0 launch date will surely be familiar with Sharp Glass, the current weekly challenge. This challenge makes glass traps deal damage, and also increases the density of broken glass across the levels. In future weeks, the weekly programs will include Be Quiet – where enemies can hear you talk through your microphone, No Rigs, and One Chance, which removes syringes and revives.

The Weekly Calendar for The Outlast Trials

That’s pretty much everything announced in the latest developer update. So don’t worry, The Outlast Trials will receive updates post-launch for the foreseeable future!
