After months of waiting, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3 is finally here! As was the case with the first and second chapters, there are several tapes (and VHS players) across the game. Finding and playing these tapes shed light upon the creepy and twisted ongoings of Playtime Co.
Most of the tapes are pretty easy to find, as they’re located near the TVs. However, this isn’t the case for all the VHS tapes, as some are fairly well hidden.
This guide will show you how to find all 12 VHS tapes in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3.
How to Pick Up Tapes
You can pick up VHS tapes using ‘Left Click’ (for default keybinds). Then, put the tape into the VHS player by pressing ‘E’.
All VHS Tape Locations in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3
1. Blue Tape (Tutorial Area)
Ok, this one is super easy. Once you’ve finished the tutorial platforming area, you’ll enter into a room that needs to be unlocked with two power cells. Look around for the TV in this room, and you can find the first tape (the blue tape) on the floor just in front of the TV. Pretty easy, eh?
2. Green Tape (Gas Production Zone)
Progress further in the game until you reach the giant room with the red smoke. This is the Gas Production Zone.
Collect the power cell from the room to the left, and use it to unlock the room to the right. This room contains the upgraded Grab pack, as well as the green tape on the floor beside it.
3. Red Tape (Orphanage)
The next tape is found within the ‘Home Sweet Home’ orphanage section of the game. After walking back and forth along the hallways listening to news reports about a murder, you’ll find yourself in an infirmary with several beds and a large TV.
Locate the red VHS tape on one of the hospital beds on the other side of the room.
4. Magenta Tape (Orphanage)
The fourth tape is also found at the orphanage.
Once you get the gas mask, use the purple Grab Pack to boost upwards. Then, continue down the hall until you have to crouch beneath a fallen sofa. Open the door to the right, and you’ll be staring straight at a TV in the center of the room.
The tape is sneakily hidden in the corner of the room, and you’ll need to crouch to reach it. To find it, turn back towards the door, and there’ll be a small opening on the left side near the door where you entered.
5. Dark Green Tape (Orphanage)
The fifth tape is the final tape that’s found within the orphanage.
After using the racecar to open the path to the banisters, find the room next to the Picky Piggy sign. It’s furnished with bright blue Huggy Wuggy sofas. That’s definitely an acquired taste.
The tape is hidden in the cabinet in the room, to the right of the TV. Use your Grab Pack to open the cabinet door, and collect the dark green VHS tape.
6. Yellow Tape (School)
Fantastic, you’re now at the school! The next tape is found in the room closed off by metal shutters. The VHS tape can be found in this room at the bottom of the blue locker.
The TV is behind the metal shutters, which can be opened by bringing an electric charge from the generator room with the two power cells.
7. Orange Tape (Restricted Access Cave)
As you’re completing the school section, you’ll find your third Grab Pack upgrade. Enter the room to the left, and cross the bridge to the ‘Restricted Area’ – this is a large underground cave system. As soon as you walk through, the TV is to the right.
The orange tape is mere meters away, on top of a wooden plank.
8. Pink Tape (Playhouse)
After completing all the puzzles in the cave area, you’ll reach the Playhouse. In the first room that you enter, there’s a TV directly to your left.
Continue to the hallway with the colorful tiles (opposite the door you came in from) and go to the room on the left.
The pink VHS tape can be found inside one of the tents. This is one of the only tapes that is located in a different room from its VHS player.
9. White Tape (Offices)
Following the Playhouse, you should now reach the offices. Inside, you’ll have to unlock the door using the power cell hidden in the vent. Once inside the unlocked room, the tape recorder and white tape can be found at the end of the room. The tape is on the table opposite the tape recorder.
10. Purple Tape (Offices)
Now, the game will make you leave the offices and enter a different part of the cave system. However, you’ll return to the offices soon enough for the tenth tape. Its TV and VHS player are inside the office of ‘Head of Playcare, Stella Greyber’.
You can find the purple tape on the desk in the room.
11. Black Tape (Catnap Boss Room)
The penultimate tape can be played in the large room after you escape the giant Catnap by powering the elevator.
As you leave the elevator, turn to your right to find the VHS player and TV screen. Your vision will be partially obscured by the red smoke.
Fortunately, the black tape is literally right beneath the VHS recorder. Easy peasy.
12. The Final Tape (The Hour of Joy)
And finally, we’ve reached the final tape! Luckily, you don’t have to do any searching for this, as Poppy will put the tape in the player all by herself. So now you can sit back and relax, and enjoy the definitely-not-insanely-creepy tape that is ‘The Hour of Joy’.
