The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game took the horror genre by storm when it released in August 2023. With its tense atmosphere, slick gameplay, and immense replay-ability, it feels like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game is here to stay.
However, the game is not as simple as it might seem, and it can take a few hours to fully get to grips with the gameplay. As such, we are creating a series of guides to help beginners with the game, such as our guide on every way to escape in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Game.
In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about the family’s secret weapon: grandpa.
Grandpa will start each match asleep. This means that his ability to scream and spot victims is not active. Plus, any grandpa perks that the family members have brought into the match are also inactive.
Grandpa will always wake up whenever a victim opens a basement door. In my matches, this is usually how grandpa wakes up. However, it’s important to note that grandpa can be woken up early, in these particular circumstances:
Once grandpa is awake, he will scream at regular intervals. This will highlight the auras of any moving victims. This makes it easy to pinpoint the locations of victims, and start your attack.
The family members can level grandpa up by feeding him blood. As grandpa levels up, his ‘yell’ ability will become better and better. The detection range increases, and the interval between the ability decreases.
Plus, each family member can bring in their own perk that will activate once grandpa reaches a high-enough level. However, these perks do not stack, so try to avoid duplicates!
The family members can collect blood through 3 different means:
Depending on the family member’s ‘blood harvesting’ stat, you can hold different amounts of blood. By default, Sissy can hold the most blood, and Leatherface the least.
These stats can be tailored to your playstyle by spending attribute points in the character customisation menu.
Hope is not lost for all the victim players out there. Whilst grandpa is certainly powerful at level 5, there are ways to counter his abilities before he reaches this level.
Whenever you get notified that grandpa is about to scream, it’s best to stay still. By remaining still, you will not get detected by grandpa’s yell.
As a victim, you will also get detected by grandpa if you are within his line of sight. So probably don’t try to hide from the family by crouching right in front of grandpa.
If you want to go on the offence, victims can also disable grandpa. With a bone scrap in hand, you can attack grandpa by pressing the action button. This will disable him for a short period of time, meaning that he cannot use his ‘yell’ ability. Plus, any grandpa perks brought in by the family members will not be active during this time.
As of writing, there are 14 grandpa perks. Each family members can equip 1 grandpa perk alongside their own 3 perks. These will activate – one per level – as grandpa levels up. Do note that these perks do not stack, and so you will want to avoid duplicates to maximise grandpa’s power.
Even though he’s just sitting, grandpa can sometimes be troublesome to locate. He usually spawns in the middle of each map, but this may vary depending on the match.
As a family member, the easiest way to find grandpa is by using the ‘family focus’ ability. This will show you grandpas location, as well as blood buckets and other family members.
The family focus ability can be used by pressing the middle mouse button on keyboard/mouse, or Up on the D-Pad for controller. It does have a short cool-down but is very useful for getting your bearings on the map.
And that’s pretty much it for Grandpa. If you follow these tips and remember to feed grandpa plenty of blood, you will surely keep a leg-up on the victims.
