Dead by Daylight Announces Tokyo Ghoul Chapter

Jay DaviesNewsMarch 11, 2025

The Dead by Daylight universe is expanding once again with a brand new licensed chapter. Behaviour Interactive has just confirmed an exciting – and heavily anticipated – collaboration with the iconic anime series Tokyo Ghoul. Fans of both the game and the series can now look forward to a terrifying new chapter featuring a new killer, Ken Kaneki.

Tokyo Ghoul Chapter Release Date

Whilst Dead by Daylight’s collaboration with Tokyo Ghoul is available on the Playable Test Build on Steam right now, the chapter will officially launch for everyone on Wednesday, April 2nd. This means that players on Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC can all play as (or against) Kaneki in just a few weeks!

Ken Kaneki: The Newest Dead by Daylight Killer

In Tokyo Ghoul, Ken Kanaki is an innocent college student who gets attacked by his date who turns out to be a human-eating ghoul. Luckily, a freak construction accident manages to kill the ghoul whilst Kaneki is saved by a doctor who implants her organs into him to save him. This has the effect of turning Kaneki into a ghoul himself which triggers a series of events that leads him to becoming the beloved anti-hero he’s known as today.

DBD’s take on Kaneki features voice lines from Natsuki Hanae, the same actor who portrays Ken Kaneki in the anime series!

Kaneki’s Abilities in Dead by Daylight

As you’ll probably notice, Ken Kaneki has these massive tentacles surging out of his back, and these tentacles come into play with his power.

Kaneki’s main ability is Kagune Leap, which launches his tentacles towards vertical surfaces. Connecting to a surface will pull him towards it at great speed. This is a fantastic movement ability that allows him to traverse the map very quickly, which is useful to protect generators, as well as helping him catch survivors during chases. It does take a bit of getting used to, as the tentacles act like a slingshot and can bump you into objects. You can also use your Kagune Leap to vault over pallets, similar to how Albert Wesker vaults pallets with his power.

After you use the first leap, you have a small period of time to activate your second leap. If you’re aiming at a survivor during this, your tentacles will actually grab a survivor from range, pulling you towards them and injuring them if they are healthy. It’s not too difficult to hit a grab attack, so Kaneki cannot down anyone with this ability (if the survivor is already injured, they will instead be put into Deep Wound). This grab attack leaves a Kagune Mark on the survivor, which ties into Kaneki’s second ability, Enraged Mode.

Enraged Mode activates when Kaneki does a successful grab attack, and lasts until there are no survivors with a Kagune Mark. Survivors can get rid of a Kagune Mark by fully mending, or entering the dying state. In Enraged Mode, you can perform three consecutive Kagune Leaps, and you’ll vault over pallets quicker too.

So far, Kaneki is a really fun killer thanks to his Kagune Leap. I always find killers with movement abilities, such as The Blight or The Nurse, to be far more interesting and engaging than your typical “m1 killer” (looking at you Skull Merchant…). It seems like Kaneki will have a pretty high skill ceiling too, thanks to the potential movement techniques to do with his leap.

Ken Kaneki’s Perks

As with every new character that launches in Dead by Daylight, Kaneki comes with three perks (which can be unlocked on other characters once you prestige him).

Hex: Nothing But Misery

After you damage Survivors 8/8/8 times with basic attacks, a dull totem becomes a hex totem, cursing all Survivors.

When you damage a Survivor with a basic attack, they gain 5/5/5% Hindered for 10/12.5/15 seconds.

The effects last until the hex totem is cleansed.

Forever Entwined

When a Survivor takes damage, gain 1 token, up to 6/7/8.

For each token, you pick up, drop and hook Survivors 4% faster.

None Are Free

When you hook a Survivor for the first time, gain 1 token, up to 4.

When all generators are completed, for each token, all windows and upright pallets are blocked for everyone for 12/14/16 seconds.

Based on first impressions, None Are Free seems like the strongest perk in Ken Kaneki’s arsenal. It slots very well into end-game builds (alongside No Way Out and Hex: No One Escapes Death) and has the potential to help you clutch the trial once the generators are completed.

Tokyo Ghoul Cosmetics

Whilst there’s no new survivor or map with this chapter, we are getting some Tokyo Ghoul themed cosmetics for several survivors and killers!

  • Legendary Rize Kamishiro Outfit for The Ghoul (Ken Kaneki)
  • Rabbit Costume Outfit for Yui Kimura
  • Hide Costume Outfit for Renato Lyra
  • Eto Costume Outfit for Nea Karlsson
  • Awakened Ghoul Outfit for The Ghoul

There will also be special masks themed around Tokyo Ghoul for The Unknown, Jonah Vasquez, Jake Park, and David King.

8.6.0 Patch Notes: Notable Changes

Ken Kaneki will launch with the 8.6.0 update, and will enter the fog alongside several balance changes. I won’t go through them all, but those interested should check out the official patch notes for the PTB. As always, the PTB is just the test version of the update, so there will likely be changes to these patch notes before the official release on April 2nd.

Some highlights are:

Deep Wound is being nerfed so that it takes less time to mend. In response, Legion – who heavily relies upon Deep Wounds as a part of their kit – is receiving several buffs to their Feral Frenzy’s cooldown, duration and movement speed gained from hits.

They’re also adding a new Surrender Option for both survivors and killers, where you can leave the match while still retaining your bloodpoints, XP and emblems. This will only appear in very specific situations, so you likely won’t come across this feature too often.

For killers, you can surrender if:

  • All remaining Survivors are bots
  • No generator has been completed within the last 10 minutes

For survivors, you can surrender if:

  • All remaining Survivors are bots
  • No generator has been completed within the last 10 minutes
